Overview & Learning Objectives

How EV battery packs work — cell chemistry, battery management system (BMS) operation, thermal management, state-of-charge monitoring, and safe handling per Australian transport regulations.


Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the construction of a lithium-ion battery pack (cell, module, pack)

2. Describe common cell chemistries (NMC, LFP, NCA) and their characteristics

3. Explain BMS functions: cell balancing, temperature monitoring, SoC estimation, fault detection

4. Perform insulation resistance testing on a battery pack

5. Handle, store, and transport EV batteries per Australian Dangerous Goods Code
