Getting started

Workshop transition checklist.

A rough guide to what's involved in adding EV work to your shop. Every workshop is different, but these are the common steps.

01

Assess your current setup

What equipment do you already have? What space is available? What does your team know? Start with an honest look at where you are.

02

Get your team trained

At minimum, anyone working on HV systems needs the AURETH safety skill sets. For conversions, you'll need kit-specific training too.

03

Set up your workspace

Dedicated HV work area, appropriate PPE, isolation equipment, and signage. Your insurer will want to see this documented.

04

Understand the regulations

Know what approvals you need in your state for the work you want to do. VSB 14 for conversions, general servicing standards for EV maintenance.

05

Start with servicing

EV servicing is the easiest entry point — brake checks, coolant, tyres, diagnostics. Build confidence before moving to conversions.

06

Add conversions when ready

Once your team is trained and you have the engineering documentation, you can start taking on conversion projects.
